The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) still has not recognized Armenia's borders as they existed when the country joined the organization. Artur Hovhannisyan, an MP from Armenia's ruling Civil Contract faction, stated this during a briefing.
Commenting on statements regarding the possibility of the CSTO stripping Armenia of its voting rights and subsequently expelling it from the organization, the lawmaker noted that the military bloc has not yet explained why it failed to fulfill its obligations to Yerevan.
Hovhannisyan stressed that Armenia continues to take independent steps to ensure its security. According to him, Yerevan is concluding strategic partnership agreements with various countries, developing its national military industry, and striving to strengthen its defense potential.
"Armenia is doing everything possible to ensure its security by developing its military industry and its forces, concluding agreements on strategic partnerships with various countries, and thereby developing its military and defense capabilities," the MP added.
Relations between Armenia and the CSTO have deteriorated sharply in recent years. Accusing the organization of failing to fulfill its obligations regarding the country's security, Yerevan's leadership has effectively frozen its participation in CSTO activities.
