Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that in the Likud party primaries, he will vote for a list of Knesset candidates that will prevent opposition leaders from forming a coalition government with Arab parties.
According to the head of government, his goal is to prevent Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot and Democrats party leader Yair Golan from coming to power.
Netanyahu emphasized that he would vote for a "winning list that guarantees that Eisenkot and Golan will not form a narrow government with Arab parties, as they promised."
The Likud leader added that he is not interfering in the formation of the national slate, expressing confidence in the party members' own judgment, and wished success to all prospective parliamentary candidates.
Voting in the primaries takes place on Monday from 10:00 to 20:00. More than 140,000 Likud members are eligible to determine the party's candidates for the upcoming elections.
Last month, the party's Central Committee granted Netanyahu the authority to independently fill eight of the first 30 slots on the party's Knesset candidate list. Later, the party reserved three more positions, which were allocated to incumbent ministers.
The next parliamentary elections in Israel are scheduled for October 27.
