Today, June 26, is celebrated as Armed Forces Day in Azerbaijan.
The foundation of the Azerbaijani army was laid on June 26, 1918, in Ganja city by a decision of the parliament of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. However, after the collapse of the Republic in 1920, the national army was abolished.
After the country regained its independence, the Armed Forces were re-established on October 9, 1991, by a decision of the Supreme Soviet.
Currently, the Azerbaijani army is considered the strongest in the South Caucasus region in terms of combat capability and material and technical supply. The structure of the Armed Forces includes the Land Forces, Air Force and Air Defense Forces, as well as the Naval Forces.
This day is celebrated with special pride and joy by the people in connection with the Azerbaijan Army, under the Supreme Command of President Ilham Aliyev, ending 30 years of occupation by liberating Karabakh and restoring the country's territorial integrity.
