President Ilham Aliyev has signed an Order on additional measures to accelerate the socio-economic development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The Order aims to expand the use of renewable energy sources, renovate transport, road, and educational infrastructure, as well as accelerate landscaping and construction works in the autonomous republic in 2026–2027. A total of 258 million manats is planned to be allocated from the state budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the budget of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for the implementation of the specified measures.
Of the allocated funds, 70 million manats has been assigned to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This amount will be used for the major repair of highways across 2 inter-village, 5 urban, and 10 rural areas with a total length of 420 kilometers, connecting 26 settlements inhabited by 156.3 thousand people. In the initial stage, 53 million manats has been allocated to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan to renew the intercity public transport fleet.
In the energy sector, 66 million manats has been directed to «Azarenerji» Open Joint Stock Company to continue construction and installation works at the Tivi Hydroelectric Power Plant with a total capacity of 15.6 MW on the Gilanchay River in Tivi village of Ordubad district. In addition, 9 million manats has been allocated to the relevant executive authorities for the overhaul of 45 heating boiler houses serving 5,335 apartments across 122 residential buildings in the cities of Nakhchivan, Sharur, Julfa, and Ordubad.
As part of improving the housing stock, 15 million manats has been provided to the relevant executive authorities for the full overhaul of 92 residential buildings with 2,164 apartments in the cities of Nakhchivan, Sharur, Julfa, Ordubad, and Shahbuz, and for the facade overhaul of 70 buildings with 3,087 apartments in Nakhchivan, Julfa, and Sharur. In the field of education: 25 million manats has been allocated to the Ministry of Science and Education for the construction of a 1,000-seat student dormitory complex at Nakhchivan State University, and 20 million manats is earmarked for the construction of 5 new preschool education institutions with a total capacity of 640 seats in the villages of Bulgan, Dasta, Abragunusu, Garabaghbar, and the city of Sharur.
Other important infrastructure and green energy projects are currently underway in the autonomous republic as well. Within the framework of the green energy zone, the construction of the «Shams 1» and «Ufuq» solar power plants with a total capacity of 50 MW, as well as the 36 MW «Ordubad» hydroelectric power plant, has been accelerated. At the same time, construction work is being carried out on a 7-kilometer section of the 194.2-kilometer Nakhchivan railway line, and preparations are being made for the construction of the Nakhchivan Industrial Park, 518 social housing units, and a new hotel complex.
