At least 15 people died as a result of an overloaded ferry capsizing on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, Associated Press reports, citing Zimbabwe's National Disaster Management Agency.
As a result of the rescue operation, 77 people were saved. They managed to reach one of the small islands on the lake. Another 27 people are currently listed as missing. Active search and rescue efforts continue in the lake area.
According to estimates from Zimbabwe's civil protection unit based on ticket sales data, 114 passengers and 5 crew members were on board the ferry at the time of the incident.
