Russian authorities are working on resuming regular air travel with Georgia. This information was confirmed by Alexander Lambin, Deputy Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the diplomat, the final decision on the full resumption of flights will depend on the situation in Georgia itself. A key factor is the readiness of the Georgian side "to ensure the proper level of aviation security for our citizens and aircraft."
Earlier, Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, also commented on the matter. He stated that Russia might revisit this issue "when the conditions are ripe," noting the "complex internal political context" in Georgia.
It is worth recalling that Russia unilaterally suspended flights to Georgia in July 2019 amid anti-Russian protests in Tbilisi. The ban was lifted by a decree from Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 10, 2023, and air travel resumed on May 19. Currently, flights between the countries are operated by Georgian Airways and the Russian airline Azimuth.
