Bank Leumi announced the launch of a service that will allow its clients to trade cryptocurrencies directly through its banking infrastructure. To implement the project, the Israeli financial group signed a cooperation agreement with Galaxy Digital and Galaxy Custody, formerly known as GK8.
The launch of the new direction is scheduled for early 2027. Providing services to clients will only be possible after obtaining official approval from the Bank of Israel.
Once the service is operational, clients of Bank Leumi and the digital bank PEPPER will be able to buy, store, and sell selected digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana. Operations will be conducted in a dedicated, secure section of the Leumi Trade application, used for capital market transactions.
The project's infrastructure partner is Galaxy Digital Inc., whose shares are traded on the US NASDAQ exchange. The company specializes in digital asset and data center solutions, providing financial institutions with services for trading, asset management, custody, staking, and tokenization. The project will utilize the Galaxy Custody Infrastructure and GalaxyOne Institutional platforms.
Maya Rabia, Head of Strategy at Bank Leumi, noted that this step is an important part of the financial institution's innovation strategy. According to her, digital assets are gradually becoming an integral element of the global financial system, so the bank's task is to provide clients with controlled and simple access to operations through a reliable banking platform.
Lior Lamesh, CEO of Galaxy Israel and Galaxy Custody, emphasized that Bank Leumi became the first Israeli bank to offer clients access to cryptocurrencies. He added that the digital asset market in Israel is showing rapid growth, and the joint platform being created will ensure an institutional level of security for trading and storing assets.
