The epicenter of the tremors was in Chiba Prefecture, near the capital Tokyo. The earthquake's focus was reported to be at a depth of 50 kilometers.
According to initial reports, there were no casualties or significant damage as a result of the natural disaster.
A tsunami warning issued immediately after the earthquake was quickly canceled after the situation was assessed.
