Representatives of various religious communities, including the leaders of Jewish communities in Azerbaijan, participated in the traditional blood donation campaign held in Azerbaijan on the occasion of Ashura Day.
Among the donors were Alexander Sharovsky, Chairman of the Baku Religious Community of European Jews; Rabbi Zamir Isayev, Chairman of the Baku Religious Community of Sephardic Jews; and Milikh Yevdayev, Chairman of the Baku Religious Community of Mountain Jews.
The purpose of this humanitarian initiative, organized jointly by the Caucasian Muslims Office and the Ministry of Health, is to collect blood reserves. The collected blood will be used for the treatment of individuals suffering from hemophilia, thalassemia, and other serious diseases.
This year, the campaign was organized at 40 points in 30 cities and regions of the country. Blood donation points primarily operate in mosques and shrines, while conditions have also been created for citizens to donate blood in medical and educational institutions.
The campaign, which began at 08:00 AM, continues throughout the day with the participation of numerous citizens.
It should be noted that Ashura Day falls in the month of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. This year, the month of Muharram reportedly began on June 16.
