The first half of the match saw no goals. The only truly dangerous moment was created by the Mexicans in the 39th minute when Czech goalkeeper Konarz saved a shot from Sanchez.
After the break, the game came alive. In the 46th minute, the Czech team had a chance to open the scoring, but Cerv shot directly at the goalkeeper. The score was opened in the 55th minute thanks to an individual effort by Mateo Chavez Garcia from the Dutch club AZ. He made a solo run from near the center of the field and accurately struck the ball into the corner – 1-0.
In the 61st minute, Mexico's lead doubled. Mora broke through the defense and set up Sanchez one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Sanchez failed to score. The ball rebounded to Julian Quiñones from Al-Qadsiah, who tapped it into the net, making it 2-0.
In the 78th minute, a significant event occurred for the Mexican team: goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa came on as a substitute. This World Cup marked his sixth in his career.
The final score was set in the fourth minute of added time. Jimenez could not beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation, but Alvaro Fidalgo from Betis was first to the rebound and hammered it in, making the score a resounding 3-0. This victory was also notable as it was the first time since 2014 that Mexico scored three goals in a single World Cup match.
