The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan has responded to the remarks made by the spokesperson of the Russian Federation's MFA, Maria Zakharova, regarding the Karabakh region and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Answering a question from local media, MFA spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada noted that the views once again expressed by Maria Zakharova regarding the past Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict are a distortion of reality.
He reminded that the Karabakh region has always been recognized by the international community, including the Russian Federation, as an integral part of Azerbaijan. According to Hajizada, the attempt to constantly keep the issue of applying CSTO mechanisms to Azerbaijani territories held under Armenian occupation for 30 years on the agenda, and linking this to whether Armenia recognized Karabakh or not, is completely unfounded. At the same time, this contradicts the official position of the Russian side regarding the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
The MFA official emphasized that Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with the requirements of international law, and thus the past conflict has been resolved. In conclusion, it was stated that the practice of commenting on topics related to Russia-Armenia relations in connection with Azerbaijan must be ended.
