The fatal shooting of a man by police in Madison, Wisconsin, has triggered mass protests.
According to police, the man they attempted to detain wounded one of the officers with a knife. Law enforcement officials initially attempted to neutralize him with a taser, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Subsequently, one of the officers opened fire. Although the wounded man was transported to a hospital, it was not possible to save his life.
All four officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. According to the report, none of them were equipped with body cameras at the time of the incident.
Protests began in the city after video footage of the incident was circulated on social media. Demonstrators chanted, "No justice, no peace." In the evening, residents brought flowers and candles to the scene of the incident to honor the memory of the deceased.
The mayor of Madison expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the importance of conducting a fully transparent and publicly accountable investigation into the incident.
