Israeli airline El Al announced an agreement with Starlink, a company owned by Elon Musk. As part of this partnership, high-speed internet access will be provided onboard El Al aircraft. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, as reported by Reuters on June 15.
According to plans, the installation of Starlink equipment on the Israeli carrier's aircraft will begin in 2027. The high-speed internet access service will be available to passengers free of charge.
The availability of fast Wi-Fi during flights has become a significant competitive advantage for airlines in attracting premium customers in recent years.
Starlink, part of SpaceX, provides internet access through its own network of low-Earth orbit satellites. According to Ookla, this technology provides connection speeds several times greater than the capabilities of traditional satellite systems.
The introduction of Starlink will allow our passengers to stay connected during the flight, use streaming services, and also work and communicate without interruptions.
This was stated by El Al CEO Levi Halevi.
El Al's long-haul fleet primarily consists of modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and the company plans to further expand it. In addition, the carrier has placed an order for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, intended for European routes.
