On July 17, 2026, representatives from Azerbaijan and China held talks on the development of modern financial technologies. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) and the international payment system UnionPay discussed opportunities for implementing and expanding payment solutions based on the use of QR codes.
As reported by Report with reference to the CBA, Deputy Chairman of the bank Vusal Khalilov met with a delegation led by the Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of UnionPay, Wan Licheng.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of initiatives provided for in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed this year, as well as the progress of joint projects. The participants paid special attention to the prospects for developing a digital payment ecosystem and integrating QR-code based payment solutions in Azerbaijan. The parties also examined opportunities for further deepening their partnership.
