The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court has issued a ruling in a civil case regarding an attack on three Jews in the city during Operation «Guardian of the Walls» in 2021.
Jnews.az reports that the court ordered two individuals previously convicted for participating in the attack to pay a total of 180,000 shekels in compensation to the victims. Each of the three victims will be paid 60,000 shekels.
In addition, the defendants must pay 36,000 shekels in court costs and attorney fees. Thus, the total financial obligation imposed on them exceeds 220,000 shekels.
How did the attack happen?
The incident occurred in May 2021 near Jerusalem’s Lions’ Gate during Operation «Guardian of the Walls». Three people reached the Rockefeller junction in their car while heading to the Western Wall. It was reported that they were wearing kipas, indicating that they were Jewish.
At that moment, a group of people attacked the car, throwing stones, using pepper spray, and applying physical violence against the occupants of the vehicle. As a result of the attack, one of the car’s rear windows was broken. Court materials also noted that one of the defendants tried to open the car door and throw stones at those inside.
The court assessed the incident as a particularly severe act of nationally motivated violence and emphasized that the fear and anxiety experienced by the victims during the attack were also part of the damage caused to them.
Judge Eliad Veinshal stated that the two individuals bear joint and several liability for the damage caused to the three victims, regardless of whether other participants were involved in the proceedings.
The court also rejected the argument of one of the defendants that his role in the attack was limited, noting that he actively participated in various stages of the incident.
The two individuals had previously been convicted in a criminal case and received prison sentences. The new ruling was made as part of a civil lawsuit filed by the victims.
