A new tourism project titled "Hospitable Jewish Tula" has been launched to promote the historical and cultural heritage of the Jewish community in the Russian city of Tula.

The project was a winner of the "TikunLab 2026" social project laboratory. The author of the project is Malika Mukhutdinova, head of the Tula Jewish History Museum. Together with representatives of the Jewish community, she has developed a special tourist route reflecting the city's Jewish heritage.

According to reports, the settlement of Jews in Tula began in the 19th century. During that period, a group of Jews was sent to the Tula arms factory for military service and decided to stay in the city after completing their service. The work of the city's first rabbi, Meyer Zafren, in 1859 played an important role in the formation and development of the community.

Currently, Jewish life in the city is centered at the "Hasdey Neshama" community center. It houses a synagogue, a history museum, a school, a kindergarten, a charity center, and a kosher restaurant. The museum displays ancient books, documents, religious items, and other exhibits reflecting the history of the community.

As part of the "Hospitable Jewish Tula" route, tourists visit the synagogue, learn about Jewish traditions and culture, walk through the historic streets of Tula, visit the city's landmarks, including the Tula Kremlin, and have the opportunity to taste samples of Jewish cuisine.

The main goal of the project is to demonstrate the role of the Jewish community in the history of Tula, promote the city's cultural diversity, and introduce visitors to this heritage. According to the project's authors, the initiative serves to preserve historical heritage and strengthen mutual understanding between different cultures.
