The Media and Broadcasting Council has been officially established in Azerbaijan. The new body is tasked with regulating the media space and broadcasting issues in the country. President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree implementing the relevant legislative amendments.
The new agency becomes the legal successor to the Audiovisual Council of Azerbaijan. In addition, according to the decree signed by the head of state, the public legal entity Media Development Agency is liquidated. The rights, duties, and property of both structures are fully transferred to the newly created Council.
The maximum staff limit for the Media and Broadcasting Council has been set at 108 positions. The document also officially approves the organizational structure of the agency.
The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to resolve organizational and financial issues within one month. The government must ensure the transfer of state property from the abolished structures to the Council’s balance sheet, address funding issues within the allocated budget for the current year, and provide the new agency with an administrative building.
The staff of the new Council will be recruited from current employees of the Audiovisual Council and the Media Development Agency.
