Israel’s ruling Likud party has completed counting votes in its primary election, determining the final lineup of the candidate list for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
During the voting, party members established candidate rankings. The results will affect the future political fate of both incumbent lawmakers who retained their positions and politicians who failed to secure expected spots in the election race.
According to the primary results, the top spots on the candidate list were secured by close political allies of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and key figures overseeing judicial reform.
Additionally, current public opinion polls show that Likud could win approximately 22 seats in the next Knesset elections. If this forecast materializes, a number of current ministers and parliamentarians of the party could face the risk of losing their seats in the Knesset.
Thus, showing a high result in the primaries is not only a matter of position on the party list for Likud members, but also of crucial importance in terms of securing a seat in the next Knesset.
