The Israel Meteorological Service has presented an updated long-term weather forecast. According to the forecast, the upcoming autumn season will be characterized by abnormally high precipitation. In October and November, precipitation levels are expected to significantly exceed multi-year averages.
Jnews.az reports that in October, precipitation in most regions of the country could reach 170-200 percent of the norm. Along the central and southern coasts, this figure is predicted to exceed 200 percent. Despite the high precipitation, according to experts’ estimates, temperatures in October will be higher than the seasonal norm.
November is also expected to be rainy. Precipitation is projected to be 120–130 percent of the norm in the northern and central regions of the country, and 130-150 percent in the south. According to forecasts, including data obtained with the help of artificial intelligence models, the trend of above-normal precipitation will continue in December as well.
Experts note that rains in October are often local and intense in nature. For this reason, there is a high probability of urban flooding in the coastal plain, as well as flash floods occurring in the southern and eastern regions of Israel.
The Meteorological Service has already held a series of meetings with representatives of ministries and rescue services. During the meetings, possible development scenarios for hazardous weather events, including urban flooding and flash floods, were presented. The purpose of these meetings was to prepare emergency services for potential consequences.
The agency emphasizes that long-term forecasts only reflect the probable trend compared to multi-year averages.
On September 8, partly cloudy and hot weather conditions are predicted to prevail in Israel, with fog observed in some areas.
