In Netanya, Israel, 75-year-old yeshiva leader and Rabbi Amos Quetta died as a result of a stabbing attack.
The incident occurred overnight on July 1 at the religious educational institution led by the rabbi. Severely wounded, Amos Quetta was rushed to Laniado Hospital in critical condition. Despite doctors' efforts to save his life, the rabbi passed away without regaining consciousness.
According to preliminary investigation results, the attack was carried out by an individual known to the rabbi, who reportedly had mental health issues. The suspect allegedly wanted to pray with the rabbi. During an argument that arose between them, he inflicted four stab wounds on the rabbi. Police have identified the suspect, and operations to apprehend him are ongoing.
According to Magen David Adom (MADA) emergency services, the call about the incident came in at 05:45 from Shimon Bar Yochai Street in Netanya. The medical team that arrived at the scene found the rabbi unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, with severe stab wounds in various parts of his body.
A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident, and the motive and other details are being investigated. Police continue their investigation to determine all circumstances of the murder.
