Officers of the Main Customs Directorate of Nakhchivan have prevented an attempt to transit a large shipment of drugs. The incident occurred at the Shahtakhti customs post.
The truck, carrying processed food products, was traveling from Iran to Germany in transit through the territory of Azerbaijan. During an inspection of the vehicle using a stationary X-ray scanner, the cargo aroused suspicion and was sent for a detailed customs examination.
As a result of the inspection, customs officers discovered narcotics hidden in a sophisticated manner at the bottom of 1,218 plastic jars of canned rice. The net weight of the seized heroin was 112 kilograms and 761 grams.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
