Solidarity and joint efforts from all countries are essential to overcome global climate challenges. This appeal was made by Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and the appointed President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), at the Baku Energy Week.
According to Babayev, the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly evident. He recalled that 2023 was recognized as the hottest year on record, leading to widespread fires and floods globally.

Mukhtar Babayev also mentioned the COP "Troika" initiative, which unites the UAE (COP28), Azerbaijan (COP29), and Brazil (COP30). Its main goal is to ensure continuity of efforts and maintain momentum to keep the global temperature increase within 1.5 degrees Celsius.
