Russia has once again stated its openness to US mediation efforts for a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced this in a statement to journalists.
According to Peskov, Moscow is interested in advancing the peace process and is ready to consider possible mediation initiatives from Washington in this regard.
The Kremlin official also commented on French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks that the US is no longer a neutral mediator in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He emphasized that Macron cannot speak on behalf of the US and does not have the authority to determine Washington’s position.
«The French President is not a representative or spokesman for the United States,» Peskov stated.
It should be recalled that Emmanuel Macron had previously claimed that the US no longer wished to act as a neutral mediator between Russia and Ukraine. The French leader based this on Washington’s adoption of an official document supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Thus, the Kremlin is trying to demonstrate that possible diplomatic mediation channels with the US are still open, despite differing assessments circulating regarding Washington’s stance.
