The United Kingdom has taken diplomatic measures against Iran following the execution of Alireza Akbari, a dual British-Iranian national, by Iranian authorities.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly stated that London is considering further measures against Iran in response to this incident. According to him, the UK has imposed sanctions on Iran's Prosecutor General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, summoned the country's chargé d'affaires to the Foreign Office, and temporarily recalled its ambassador to Tehran for consultations.
The minister emphasized that these measures would not be the end of the matter and that the government is evaluating further steps.
At the same time, the UK Foreign Office announced that British diplomats in Iran have been temporarily withdrawn due to the deteriorating security situation. According to the ministry's statement, this decision was made to ensure the safety of staff.
It was reported that the British Embassy in Tehran will not cease operations. The diplomatic mission will continue its work remotely for the time being.
British officials have not yet provided further information regarding when the diplomats will return to Iran or how long this decision will remain in effect.
