On July 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
During the meeting, the parties held a broad exchange of views on Russia-US relations, the war in Ukraine, as well as issues on the regional and international agenda.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov briefed the US side on the situation on the contact line and stated Moscow's readiness to resolve the Ukraine conflict through political and diplomatic means. He also emphasized Russia's commitment to the proposals put forward by Washington regarding the planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
The parties also discussed the situation in the Persian Gulf, the issue of normalizing the activities of Russian and US diplomatic missions, as well as cooperation in the space sector.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the ministers stressed the importance of developing inter-parliamentary and cultural ties, and also agreed to continue contacts between the foreign ministries.
According to information released by the US State Department and international news agencies, the main topics of the meeting were the war in Ukraine and the continuation of dialogue between the two countries. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington intends to continue contacts with Moscow.
