Syria's General Administration of Ports and Customs has announced that it has intercepted weapons and ammunition intended to be smuggled into Lebanon.

According to information released by the agency, 226 RGC-type explosive devices were discovered and confiscated during an inspection at a border crossing, hidden in specially prepared secret compartments of a vehicle. It was reported that the explosives were planned to be transported illegally into Lebanese territory.

This is the second incident in the past week where an attempt to smuggle weapons from Syria to Lebanon has been thwarted. On July 16, Syria's Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the seizure of a shipment of weapons and missiles intended for delivery to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Official authorities stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
