MFA confirms drone attack in the Black Sea where two Azerbaijanis were killed

Two Azerbaijani citizens were killed in a drone (UAV) attack on a ship in the Black Sea, near the port of Odesa.

Jnews.az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has officially confirmed the information regarding the incident.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the UAV attack occurred while the ship was in the Black Sea waters. As a result of the strike, two Azerbaijani citizens who were part of the ship’s crew were killed.

According to information, the vessel in question is the tugboat «TEDY», sailing under the Somali flag and belonging to «Mert Marine Corporation». At the time of the incident, there was a crew of 10 people on board the ship. Among them were citizens of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Germany, and Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, after the attack, the ship continued its movement and headed toward the port of Constanta. During this time, the ship was subjected to two more UAV attacks.

As a result of subsequent attacks, Azerbaijani sailors Aslan Aliyev and Asim Gasimov were killed. It is reported that two other Azerbaijani sailors were injured and hospitalized in the city of Odesa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that work is underway to clarify information regarding the incident and to provide necessary assistance to the affected Azerbaijani citizens.
