On August 24, 2026, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva, and their family members visited the historic Ark Citadel in the city of Bukhara.
The Ark Citadel was built in the 4th century BC, and its current appearance was formed primarily in the 17th–18th centuries. In the early 20th century, the structure served as the winter residence of the rulers of Bukhara. The citadel currently covers an area of 4 hectares. A significant part of the complex was destroyed in 1920, and since 1947, the Bukhara State Museum-Reserve has operated on its territory.
