The Cadet World Judo Championships have concluded in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil. The tournament brought together 457 athletes from 59 countries.
The winner in the under 48 kg weight category was Israel’s Ella Bar Lavi. On her way to the gold medal, she defeated Konul Aliyeva (Azerbaijan), Mishil Aytanshagali (Mongolia), and Sharoz Nikmatova (Uzbekistan).
Bar Lavi defeated Mikaela Santos of Brazil in the semifinals, and Maëlys Daïchi of Belgium in the final bout to win the world title.
In the same weight category, another Israeli athlete, Agam Sol Noy, won a bronze medal.
Commenting on her success after the competition, Ella Bar Lavi noted that believing in herself was the key factor.
"It's not about the medals, it's about what's inside and the drive to keep moving forward. Winning is great, but hearing our anthem is magical," emphasized the world champion.
The athlete also noted that the support from her family and loved ones played an important role in her victory.
"I drew strength from my family and everyone I wanted to make proud. Before every match, I promise myself that I will never break or give up until it's all over," she added.
