The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by Khan, released information about this. The decision was made after Khan's family and supporters expressed long-standing concerns about his health and demanded his hospitalization.
The 73-year-old former cricketer and politician has been in prison since August 2023. Following his ouster from power in 2022, he was convicted in a number of cases. Khan states that these cases are politically motivated.
PTI spokesperson Zulfi Bukhari welcomed the court's decision.
"This is a very positive decision. I wish it had been made earlier so that the condition of his eye and overall health would not have deteriorated so much," Bukhari said.
According to him, Khan must remain in the hospital until all doctors confirm that his health is satisfactory.
Khan's spokesperson Naeem Haider Panjutha stated that the court ordered his transfer to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours. Imran Khan will remain in the hospital until September 16.
After being ousted from power, Khan faced court investigations related to a series of cases, including state gifts and an illegal marriage. Some of his convictions have been suspended or overturned, while appeal processes continue for other cases. The former prime minister denies all charges.
Concerns regarding Imran Khan's health have increased recently. Last year, his sons repeatedly expressed concerns about their father's deteriorating health. Khan's lawyers have stated that the vision in his right eye has significantly weakened during his time in prison.
In February 2026, prominent cricketers from various countries, including India, demanded an improvement in Imran Khan's situation in prison and expressed "deep concern" regarding his detention conditions.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, led by Imran Khan, came to power in 2018 and maintains a broad support base in the country's main provinces. However, before the 2024 elections, the party was stripped of the right to use its election symbol, and as a result, its candidates participated in the elections as independent candidates.
