Donald Trump has brought back the idea of declaring the Strait of Hormuz a US territory, stating that Washington currently fully controls this strategic waterway.
According to information released by the White House, during his speech Trump said that the idea of declaring the Strait of Hormuz a US territory still interests him.
“We transport millions of barrels of oil every week. Maybe this will stop, maybe the strait will open up more widely,” Trump said.
According to him, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz continues and oil prices are falling.
“Prices are falling, and unless we decide to take more radical steps than we are taking now, they will continue to fall,” the US president noted.
Trump also touched upon the situation in Iran, claiming that the country is facing serious problems, internal unrest is occurring, and the Iranian army has suffered heavy blows.
In addition, the US president stated that Washington is not seeking to extend the memorandum of understanding with Iran. According to him, the US is not interested in continuing that agreement with Tehran at the current stage.
