In 1965 Lotfi Zadeh published a six-page paper — “Fuzzy Sets.” It softened one of mathematics' strictest laws, set theory: an element no longer had to either fully belong to a set or not at all (1 or 0) — it could now belong to any degree between 0 and 1.
It was not a mere trick. Fuzzy logic now runs everywhere — from washing machines to automatic subway control in Tokyo, from camera autofocus to AI systems — because the real world is rarely built on yes/no.
