Posthumous recognition

The IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society established the “Lotfi A. Zadeh Pioneer Award” in his name (2014). Baku's ADA University has awarded “Lotfi Zadeh Scholarships” since 2019. On 4 February 2021 — his centenary — the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and IFSA held joint celebrations, and Google marked the year with a doodle in his honour on 30 November.

A resting place in Baku

On 29 September 2017 he was buried at the Alley of Honor, in a state-level ceremony attended by President Ilham Aliyev. His tombstone carries his own formal definition: A = {(x, μA(x)) | x ∈ X} — a rare epitaph that fits an entire scientific revolution into one formula.
