In brief

Allahverdi Bagirov was born in Aghdam in 1946, played for the local Shafag club and later worked as a coach. In the early 1990s he formed and commanded a volunteer battalion in Aghdam.

In February 1992 he was among those who organised the rescue of Khojaly residents. In June of the same year he was killed by a mine while returning from a mission, and was posthumously named a National Hero of Azerbaijan.
