Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during a visit to Belgrade, that Ukraine will face winter with virtually no operational thermal power plants as a result of overnight Russian strikes that killed four people in the Kyiv region.
Speaking at a press conference alongside his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, the Ukrainian leader stated that the latest overnight attacks and shelling of frontline communities over the past 24 hours resulted in a total of 13 deaths.
“Russian missiles are targeted specifically at making the lives of Ukrainians unbearable,” Zelensky told journalists during his first official visit to Belgrade, emphasizing that strikes are frequently aimed at the country’s energy infrastructure.
Call for Stricter Sanctions
Following a meeting with Vucic during a two-day trip to Serbia, the Ukrainian head of state again called for stricter sanctions to cut off supplies of missile components to Russia from “almost every continent, including our close partners.”
For his part, Aleksandar Vucic reaffirmed the consistency of his country’s policy regarding support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, noting that the two sides did not discuss military cooperation.
