Philadelphia police have launched an investigation into vandalism at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History. The incident occurred on August 13 at approximately 9:11 p.m. on the grounds of the Smithsonian-affiliated institution.

According to a police department spokesperson, an unidentified man defaced the "OY/YO" sculpture, leaving an offensive inscription on it. Surveillance cameras captured the suspect approaching the installation and, approximately five minutes later, heading toward a subway station and boarding a train.

No arrests have been made at this time. Detectives are reviewing all circumstances surrounding the incident, including its potential classification as a hate crime.

Almost a year ago, the same museum was targeted by vandals who defaced its facade, plaza, and an Israeli flag.
