The Israeli military (IDF) confirmed the death of Hamas sniper unit commander Omar Ahmad Abu-Qasim following a precision airstrike carried out in the central Gaza Strip.
According to information released by the IDF, Abu-Qasim was involved in planning and executing sniper attacks and other armed operations against Israeli soldiers.
The operation was conducted based on intelligence gathered by Israeli military intelligence. A second armed individual who was with him at the time of the airstrike was also neutralized.
According to the IDF's statement, the target area was subject to surveillance and additional intelligence measures prior to the operation. The strike was planned with particular precision to minimize potential risks to civilians.
The IDF also stated that operations against Hamas commanders in other areas of the Gaza Strip continue.
The military said that operations against Hamas will continue in order to eliminate existing threats to Israeli soldiers.
