Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers detained three Palestinian police officers this week.
Jnews.az reports that according to the military, the detainees were involved in setting up an unauthorized checkpoint in Area C near Beitunia, as well as detaining and assaulting an Israeli citizen.
The IDF emphasized that Palestinian security personnel do not have the authority to operate in this area. The detainees have been handed over to Israeli security services for interrogation.
Security officials characterized the incident as a serious overreach of authority by Palestinian security structures. According to official assessments, the officers’ actions posed a direct threat to the Israeli citizen’s life and involved the use of excessive force.
In a separate incident near Jenin, the military detained another Palestinian Authority police officer. Additionally, it was reported that Palestinian police officers stopped and disarmed an Israeli reservist in the Beitunia area.
IDF representatives stated that the military continues to maintain security coordination with the Palestinian Authority in accordance with the directives of the political leadership. However, the military stressed that it will not tolerate violations of established procedures and rules of engagement.
