The conflict was sparked by an interview the Spanish Prime Minister gave to the radio station Cadena SER on August 31, during which Sánchez accused Israel of being involved in spreading false information about the migration crisis and unrest in Ceuta.
Jnews.az reports that Pedro Sánchez grouped Israel with Russia and an "international far-right network," suggesting that the Israeli side may have used the situation in Ceuta to pressure Madrid due to the Spanish government's stance on the Middle East conflict.
Gideon Sa'ar categorically rejected these accusations, calling the Spanish Prime Minister's words an "outright lie." According to the head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, such statements are an attempt by Sánchez to distract the public from his own failures in governing the country.
Israel-Spain relations deteriorate
Diplomatic relations between Madrid and Jerusalem have significantly deteriorated in recent years.
Pedro Sánchez's government has officially recognized a Palestinian state, imposed an arms embargo on Israel, and restricted the use of Spanish ports and airspace for military cargo.
The Spanish Prime Minister has repeatedly criticized Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, characterizing them as "genocide."
In response, the Israeli leadership has accused the Sánchez cabinet of anti-Israel policies, which has led to a mutual downgrading of diplomatic representation between the two states.
