US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the economic policy implemented by the Washington administration has had a serious and devastating impact on Iran’s financial system.

According to S. Bessent, the measures applied by the US have dragged Iran’s national currency into a «free fall.» He noted that one of the results of the implemented economic policy is the rise of inflation in Iran to triple-digit figures.

According to the US Treasury Secretary’s assessment, Washington’s policy of economic pressure against Iran has led to a further worsening of the country’s financial and economic situation.

It should be noted that the US administration continues its sanctions pressure against Iran. On August 7, the US Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions targeting shadow banking networks, exchange companies, and other related entities facilitating Iran’s foreign currency and financial transactions. With these measures, Washington aims to restrict the Iranian government’s ability to acquire financial resources, transfer them out of the country, and access the international financial system. This was the eighth sanctions measure implemented by the US against Iran’s shadow banking system in 2026.

Prior to this, on July 29, the US also imposed new sanctions against tanker and insurance networks associated with Iran’s oil trade and international shipping. Washington’s recent steps show that pressure is being increased against Iran’s oil revenues, financial channels, and sanctions evasion mechanisms.

It appears from the US Department of the Treasury’s latest statements that Washington intends to continue its policy of «maximum pressure» against Iran’s financial networks.
