Talks were held in Yerevan regarding the project to establish a transport link with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Senior Advisor to the US Special Envoy for Peacekeeping Missions Aryeh Lightstone to discuss the implementation of the «Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity» (TRIPP) project.
According to information released by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties reviewed technical and logistical aspects of the project, as well as matters regarding the development of regional transport links.
It was reported that the meeting participants emphasized their interest in launching the project within a short timeframe and discussed prospects for integrating Armenia into the international transport and infrastructure network.
The talks were also attended by Konstantin Sokolov, head of the US State Department’s New Enterprise Fund. According to Western media reports, he will oversee the allocation of more than $200 million allocated for the development of trade corridors in Central Asia.
In addition to infrastructure projects, economic cooperation programs and the strengthening of Armenia’s energy resilience were also discussed at the meeting.
What does the TRIPP project entail?
The TRIPP project envisages establishing a transport link between the main territory of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic that will pass through the territory of Armenia. According to the project, the route will cover a 42 km section in the territory of Armenia and will later connect with Türkiye.
The initiative includes plans for the construction of road and rail lines, as well as oil and gas infrastructure.
According to reports, preparatory work on the project has already begun. In May, specialists from the US engineering and consulting firm AECOM began preliminary studies on the Armenian section of the route at the order of the US State Department fund.
After that, on June 4, Yerevan and Washington signed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation for the implementation of the TRIPP project on Armenian territory.
In August 2025, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, US President Donald Trump, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration. The document noted that Armenia, together with the US and other partners, will work on preparing a full-fledged infrastructure framework for the project.
