Israeli and Lebanese delegations discussed the restoration of the ceasefire regime, border issues, and the potential creation of pilot zones during talks held in Rome.
According to information published by the Lebanese newspaper Nidaa Al-Watan citing sources, the Beirut delegation primarily demanded the restoration of the ceasefire regime and an end to alleged violations by Israel during the talks. It is reported that this issue was brought to the agenda as a priority and must be discussed at a political level. US representatives also supported Lebanon's position, evaluating the restoration of the ceasefire as a key condition for progress in the negotiations.
Shift in Israel's position on the border
According to the report, during the meeting, the Israeli delegation changed its previous position regarding the land border for the first time, expressing readiness to discuss the possibility of reviewing the international border line. Taking into account the importance of this issue, an international law expert was also included in the Lebanese delegation.
The talks also focused on the creation of new pilot zones. The Lebanese side proposed establishing pilot zones covering extensive areas. However, Beirut considers that this step should only be taken after implementation mechanisms and technical details are agreed upon in advance. Lebanon insists on defining clear rules governing the operation of the zones to prevent any disagreements during the implementation of agreements.
