The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced it had prevented a planned terrorist act targeting one of Moscow's synagogues. According to the Public Relations Center of the agency, the individual preparing the attack was apprehended as a result of operational search measures.
The detained individual was identified as a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries. According to investigative materials, he acted on the instructions of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia.
Reportedly, the suspect carried out preparatory work for the terrorist act. He conducted reconnaissance in the area where the synagogue is located and purchased the necessary components to assemble an improvised explosive device.
FSB officers apprehended the suspect red-handed as he retrieved explosive materials from a cache. A fully prepared explosive device was discovered and seized from the hidden storage location.
According to his plan, the explosion was to occur when a large number of worshippers gathered at the synagogue. After the terrorist act, the individual reportedly planned to travel to a region where combat operations are ongoing.
