Omani authorities, in cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), announced the creation of a temporary corridor intended for the safe passage of merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. The exact coordinates of the route are expected to be announced later.
This measure is designed to ensure freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway in accordance with the norms of international law and maritime law, guaranteeing freedom of navigation without the collection of duties.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reacted to this initiative. The IRGC stated that it would not allow passage through the strait without prior coordination with the Iranian side.
The route, as some claim, without coordination with Iran and through corridors not agreed upon with us, is dangerous and unacceptable. Coordination with us is mandatory. We will take action against those who violate this directive.
