A teenager was killed in a shooting that occurred late on July 22 in Tbilisi. Three other people were injured and taken to a medical facility. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported this following media accounts.
According to the agency, the attacker opened fire and wounded four people, including two minors, before fleeing the scene. All victims were hospitalized, but one of the minors died in the hospital shortly after admission due to injuries sustained. According to unconfirmed media reports, the deceased was 17 years old.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia also stated that the suspected shooter was detained "shortly after the incident." During the arrest, he resisted law enforcement officers with a weapon and sustained a hand injury. The ministry did not specify the nature of the injury.
According to media reports, the incident occurred at the intersection of Akaki Shanidze and Akaki Khorava streets in the Vake district. Eyewitness Elene Koridze described the event:
A man opened fire on three youths aged 17 or 18 who were sitting in a car, just because they were laughing. Then he also shot at a woman who was nearby.
An investigation is currently underway for attempted murder under aggravating circumstances. The detainee faces up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
