At the initiative of Israel's Chief Rabbi David Yosef, a meeting was held at the Chief Rabbinate headquarters to address incidents of hatred against women and the growing missionary activity within the Ethiopian Jewish community.
According to information released by the Israeli Ministry of Religious Services, the meeting was attended by Reuven Vabshet, the Chief Rabbi of Ethiopian Jews, prominent rabbis, kesoch (religious leaders of the Ethiopian Jewish community), and social workers from the community.
During the meeting, the Chief Rabbi was presented with a detailed report on the current situation. It was noted that missionary groups, which previously operated covertly, are now openly attempting to influence members of the community. It was emphasized that their primary goal is to alienate Ethiopian Jews from Judaism, weaken their religious identity, and undermine traditional family values.
Participants also discussed measures to be taken to prevent incidents of hatred and discrimination against women.
The meeting highlighted the importance of implementing comprehensive measures aimed at religious education, expanding educational programs, strengthening social support, and protecting the institution of the family.
Chief Rabbi David Yosef stated that the Chief Rabbinate of Israel will lead large-scale efforts to protect Jewish identity, religious values, and the family institution. According to him, countering missionary activity and strengthening solidarity within society are among the priority issues.
Official circles believe that the joint efforts of religious and social institutions will contribute significantly to both preventing missionary influence and maintaining social stability and family values within Jewish communities.
