President Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Andy Burnham.
The letter states:
"Dear Prime Minister,
I sincerely congratulate you on your appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
We attach particular importance to the comprehensive development of Azerbaijan-United Kingdom relations, which are based on rich and pleasant traditions. The dynamics of our economic and trade cooperation, as well as the deepening and enrichment of our time-tested strategic partnership in the energy sector, are a source of satisfaction.
Companies representing your country are involved in a number of important projects in Azerbaijan and are operating effectively in both the oil and non-oil sectors of the country's economy. I would like to specifically note our successful joint activities with bp, which have been ongoing for many years in both traditional and renewable energy sectors. The fact that companies from the United Kingdom were among the first foreign companies invited by Azerbaijan after the liberation of our lands from occupation, and their close participation in the restoration and construction work currently underway there, is evidence of the high level of cooperation between our countries.
I am confident that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom will continue to develop successfully through our joint efforts in accordance with the interests of our peoples, and our partnership will be further strengthened.
I once again convey my congratulations to you and wish you success in your upcoming responsible activities."
