Jnews.az reports that attempts by operators to restore system functionality overnight were unsuccessful. By morning, a new wave of turbid water arrived from Egypt, leading to a repeated shutdown of equipment. At present, only the Hadera complex continues to function normally.
An industry representative confirmed that a sharp decline in seawater quality caused the total shutdown of most capacity. Previously, a potential cyberattack on water infrastructure was considered. However, industry officials and the National Cyber Directorate officially ruled out this scenario, attributing the incident to adverse weather conditions.
Possible disruptions in water supply
The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA/RAHAL) has warned of potential water supply disruptions in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Ma'ale Adumim, and Beit Shemesh.
The Water Authority, in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, has ordered a reduction in water usage for public irrigation and agricultural needs.
Meanwhile, water supply to residential homes continues, although pressure fluctuations are possible in some areas.
Problem has also affected southern regions
The consequences of the crisis have already affected southern regions. At 07:00, the Sderot municipality notified residents of a drop in system pressure and the cessation of water supply for irrigation.
Authorities in Givatayim, Jerusalem, and Rishon LeZion have urged the public to conserve resources as much as possible. The Mekorot company is currently utilizing alternative water sources.
Farmers are concerned
The situation is causing serious concern among farmers. Shai Kassa, a farmer from Kadesh Barnea, noted that the desalination disruptions threaten food security and jeopardize millions of shekels in investments.
The Water Authority stated that the turbidity level is being monitored by specialists, and the agency's operational center continues to oversee the status of water pressure systems.
