On the night of August 19, Israeli special forces are reported to have conducted an operation in an area under Hamas control in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to regional sources, the main target of the operation was senior Hamas police officer Sabri Atwa Abd al-Aal, who holds a position equivalent to colonel.
According to reports, a group of 15 to 20 personnel accompanied by service dogs emerged around 1:00 AM from the Ash-Shakoush area, located between southern Khan Yunis and northern Rafah, and headed toward Al-Mawasi.
Special forces soldiers were reported to be speaking Hebrew among themselves and asking about several individuals. They then entered Abd al-Aal’s tent and detained him.
During the operation, along with the Hamas police officer, Nashat Zuarab, an employee of the Al-Aqsa Committee security company, was also reported to have been detained.
Following the operation, special forces reportedly withdrew toward the «yellow line».
At present, this information has not been confirmed by independent sources. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet have not commented on the incident.
