A mass bird electrocution event was recorded in Israel’s Jordan Valley.
On August 16, Yotam Bashan, a birdwatcher from the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, discovered around 30 dead storks near power lines.
According to Bashan, storks use utility poles in the area as perches and resting places. However, poles with exposed and uninsulated electrical components pose a serious danger to birds.
According to the observer, when birds touch uninsulated parts of the poles, they receive a strong electric shock and subsequently perish.
The incident once again highlights the importance of equipping power lines and their poles with protective measures for bird safety.
